Drunk Driving Defense Attorney for the Chesterfield County Area
A South Carolina DUI conviction has serious consequences, even if it's your first conviction. However, an experienced and knowledgeable attorney can seek to minimize those consequences. At the Blake Law Firm, with offices in Bennettsville and Florence, our attorney has been a lawyer for over 15 years. He understands the system and seeks a favorable result for each client.
Experienced Attorney Seeking a Positive Outcome
DUAC/DUI penalties increase with each conviction. That is why it is so important to have a strong defense after your first DUI arrest. Our lawyer spends the time needed to get the facts, evaluate the evidence and seek lower charges and alternative penalties. Our firm's dedication to clients and their needs means that your case will receive the attention it deserves. We will help you throughout the entire process.
Remember: An arrest for DUI does not have to result in a conviction for DUI.
The penalties for a DUI conviction depend on the number of previous convictions for DUI and include:
- Immediate license suspension if you refused a breathalyzer test or were shown to have a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.15 percent or more
- A minimum fine that can range from $400 to $6,300, depending on your BAC and the number of previous convictions
- Incarceration for 48 hours up to 5 years, depending on your BAC and the number of previous convictions
- Completion of an alcohol and drug safety action program
- Loss of your driver's license for six months to two years. If you receive a fourth conviction within 10 years, your license can be revoked permanently.
There are other, non-legal consequences, including increases in your insurance rates or inability to be insured at all except through the state's SR-22 program. If you have certain types of employment, a DUI conviction may mean that you can no longer be employed in that position. It may even affect your child custody and visitation. Visas may be denied for travel to foreign countries. Our lawyer can advise you about the penalties that may apply in your situation.
